What this converter does

This converter turns miles per hour into kilometres per hour and back instantly. It also handles m/s, ft/s and knots — every pair uses an exact factor. Type a value, pick your units, and read the result as you type.

One mile per hour equals 1.60934 km/h, so mph × 1.60934 gives km/h. Unit definitions follow NIST.

The formula

Each unit has a fixed value in metres per second, so converting goes through m/s once:

Conversion
result = value × factor_from ÷ factor_to

Where:

  • value = the number you typed
  • factor_from = the “from” unit’s value in m/s
  • factor_to = the “to” unit’s value in m/s

Worked example

Convert 60 mph to km/h.

Step 1 · The factor
1 mph = 1.60934 km/h
Step 2 · Multiply
60 × 1.60934 = 96.56 km/h

So 60 mph is about 96.6 km/h.
