What this converter does

This converter turns acres into hectares and back instantly, alongside square metres, square feet, square kilometres and the Indian units guntha and cent. Every pair uses an exact ratio, so plot and farmland areas stay precise. Type a value and read the answer as you type.

One acre is 4,046.856 square metres and one hectare is exactly 10,000, so an acre is about 0.4047 hectare. For distances rather than areas, see the length units the site covers.

02

The units it covers

Every unit is a fixed area, so each converts through the square metre with a set ratio.

The formula

Each unit has a fixed value in square metres, so converting means going through the m² once:

Conversion
result = value × factor_from ÷ factor_to

Where:

  • value = the area you typed, in the “from” unit
  • factor_from = the “from” unit’s value in square metres
  • factor_to = the “to” unit’s value in square metres

Worked example

Convert 5 acres to hectares.

Step 1 · The ratio
1 acre = 0.404686 ha
Step 2 · Multiply
5 × 0.404686 = 2.0234 ha

So 5 acres is just over 2 hectares.
