What this converter does

This converter turns ampere-hours into watt-hours and back. Since energy equals charge times voltage, enter the battery voltage — 12 V by default. Type a value and read the result as you type.

Reporting a battery bank in Wh makes different-voltage packs directly comparable, which Ah alone cannot do.

02

The units it covers

Energy (Wh) and charge (Ah) are linked by the battery voltage — energy is charge times voltage.

The formula

Energy equals charge times voltage, so watt-hours and ampere-hours relate through the voltage:

Conversion
Wh = Ah × V

Where:

  • Wh = energy in watt-hours
  • Ah = charge in ampere-hours
  • V = nominal battery voltage

Worked example

Convert 100 Ah at 12 V to Wh.

Step 1 · The formula
Wh = Ah × V
Step 2 · Substitute
100 × 12 = 1,200 Wh

So a 100 Ah battery at 12 V stores 1,200 Wh (1.2 kWh).

The units in this example

Ampere-hoursymbol: Ah

A unit of electric charge — the common capacity rating for lead-acid, solar and EV cells.

Common battery values
  • 1 Ah = 1,000 mAh
  • Wh = Ah × V
  • 100 Ah @12V = 1,200 Wh
  • Ah = Wh ÷ V
Watt-hoursymbol: Wh

A unit of energy — the true stored capacity of a battery, independent of voltage.

Common battery values
  • 1 Wh = 0.001 kWh
  • Wh = Ah × V
  • 1,200 Wh = 1.2 kWh
  • Wh ÷ V = Ah

FAQ

QHow do I convert Ah to Wh?
Multiply ampere-hours by the voltage. 100 Ah at 12 V is 1,200 Wh.
QWhat is 100Ah in watt-hours?
At 12 V it is 1,200 Wh; at 24 V it is 2,400 Wh — voltage sets the energy.
