What this converter does

This converter turns hertz into beats per minute and back instantly. One hertz is one cycle per second, which is 60 beats per minute — the way to read an LFO or delay rate back into a musical tempo. Type a value and read it as you type.

It also relates to rpm on the same per-minute base. For rotating machinery, see the Hz to RPM converter.

02

The units it covers

Beats and cycles are both per-time rates, so they convert through the hertz — 60 BPM equals 1 Hz.

The formula

Each rate has a fixed value in hertz, so any pair converts through the hertz:

Conversion
result = value × factor_from ÷ factor_to

Where:

  • value = the number you typed
  • factor_from = the “from” unit’s value in Hz
  • factor_to = the “to” unit’s value in Hz

Worked example

Convert 2.5 Hz to BPM.

Step 1 · The relation
1 Hz = 60 BPM
Step 2 · Multiply
2.5 × 60 = 150 BPM

So a 2.5 Hz rate is a tempo of 150 BPM.

The units in this example

Hertzsymbol: Hz

Cycles per second — the SI frequency unit used for LFOs, filters and signals.

Common tempo conversions
  • 1 Hz = 60 BPM
  • 2 Hz = 120 BPM
  • 0.5 Hz = 30 BPM
  • 1 Hz = 1 BPS

Common tempo conversions
  • 60 BPM = 1 Hz
  • 120 BPM = 2 Hz
  • 1 BPM = 0.01667 Hz
  • 140 BPM ≈ 2.33 Hz
